11604 Main Street. I like the sound of it. It sounds so Americana.

It sounds as American as apple pie. As American as...the American Dream. I have had a life long dream. A dream which came to fruition over two years ago with me starting my own photography business. A dream that has continued to grow to where it is now...a dream that will continue to grow with this next leap!

I am proud and excited to announce that I have signed the lease to my own studio! I am so excited about the future of Images by Rachael. This opens so many doors for me...and most importantly for you. This means that I am no longer limited to April-November shoots. This means that I will not longer rearrange your furniture for newborn shoots. This means creativity. This means lights, camera, action! I am bursting with excitement...and fear...and awe!

11604 Main Street in Middletown is the (perfect) location! It needs a couple coats of paint and a little tender loving care before the doors are officially opened for business, but soon...very soon! Be on the lookout for a studio opening party and promotions!

I want to throw a special thanks out there to the amazing Courtney Reece, whom I am sharing the space with. Honestly, this announcement would not be happening now if it weren't for her vision. I am honored and excited to work along side her.

I would also not be in this position if it weren't for you, my loyal clients. Thank you for your trust, patience, love and most importantly your support.

Trouble ~ {Louisville, KY Child/Family Photographer}

Trouble...with a capital "T"! That's what Cass's parents are in for. Not only do they have to worry about their eldest, Audrey (she makes a cameo below), being followed constantly by love sick boys, but they also have Cassidy to worry about. Two beautiful girls...LOTS of trouble in about 15 years. ;)

This shoot...was all about Cass though. We had originally scheduled it back at the beginning of September when Cass had just turned one, however she was just not feeling it that morning. So, we waited a couple of weeks and tried again... a little simpler this time. Oh and had Cass come around! She was SO fun to shoot...I couldn't stop pushing the shutter release! Those eyes. That smile! That dress! OMG, to die for...literally! :)

And of course...we did take a few family shots. I didnt post any (except the one below) due to the fact that I dont know if they will be using them for holiday cards. I didnt want to ruin it for them. :) So, the image below is the Speak To Me Image. LOVE it!

Honestly, I am not sure how I get so lucky! I get to meet and spend time with honestly the most amazing people on the planet! I only imagined and hoped for a life of doing what I love...and doing it with amazing people. Photography is my love...and I am so blessed to be able to do it for other people.

WARNING: The below family is GORGEOUS! We met them back in the spring...and we meet them again today, at the brink of expansion (new little one has already arrived, I believe!).

I don't have enough words to explain how awesome this family is. How happy they are...how lucky I am to get to know them...and how amazing it is that I have gotten to capture a few tiny precious moments with them.

When I moved to Louisville, KY...8 years ago (yes, Mom, it has been EIGHT years!!), I knew two people. The first was my boyfriend (now wonderful husband) and the second was his roommate, Erich. To say that I "knew" Erich...is not really accurate. I knew Erich because I was his roommate's girlfriend, and he was privy to my frequent jaunts across the country to see his roommate. However, he was the first person we told that I was moving to Louisville after Sundance...and I still remember his reaction (hehehe!). Once I moved to Louisville, I also became Erich's roommate...to a certain extent (too much information? maybe.), as the hubs (then boyfriend) rarely spent time apart, aside from when we were at work. A few months after I had moved to Louisville, Erich and my boyfriend parted roommate ways.

Enter Cory! The evening the boys decided to clean their apartment, and get out of dodge, some how Erich managed to con his new girlfriend into coming over and helping with the cleaning cause. That was when I met Cory for the first time. Their relationship moved fast, and soon I got the call from them that they were engaged. The rest is history...a wonderful, romantic, amazing history.

A couple years later their paths crossed with an infant boy from Guatemala...whom they named Chase. If you know Erich and Cory...you know their story...you know Chase's story...and you know that there are not three people in the world more meant for each other than these three. I love this family. They are courageous in was you cannot imagine. They are generous in ways you wish everyone would be. They are awesome.

OK...Ill stop gushing...on with the peak :)

H.A.LL.O.W.EE.N Spells Halloween!

Oh yes, its that time of year folks! If you are anything like me...you have been waiting for the shipments of Halloween costumes to arrive at your favorite stores! I learned my lesson last year that they go fast...so at the end of JULY I started asking sales associates just exactly when Halloween cuteness would be shipped. Now that it is upon us...lets document the cuddly sweet cuteness!

Lost in the Shuffle ~ Images by Rachael {Louisville, KY Baby Photographer}

I received and email from one of my favorite clients this morning, asking if I was going to blog here daughter's 3 month photo shoot. I read the email, and thought "Hmmm, Rachael...didn't you blog?". I had to check...and sure enough...I hadn't! WOW! Has the end of summer really gotten that crazy?!?! Apparently, I am losing my mind (shhh, don't tell my husband!) ;)

Regardless...apologize all around for sweet Hannah getting lost in the madness!

Hannah is one of my Watch 'em Grow babies...(more info on the website if you are interested). So you will be seeing her a lot this next year. Back in July, we did her 3 month shoot, and oh my how she had grown! The day of the shoot...she was VERY serious! While she would happily pose, she did not crack a smile. Defiance at an early age! She knew what we wanted, and was not going to give it to us! Good for her! Not so pleasing to her wonderful Mom! So, we scheduled a re shoot....and this time, she smiled...and giggled...until the camera was in her face, then she got real serious again. Hahaha, it was the funniest thing! I was able to grab a few though :)

Oh and the pink polka-dot dress...KILLS me! LOVE IT! :)

This next one, Tricia (her mom), had specifically requested. She has one similar to it of Hannah's older brother and wanted a matching one of Hannah. :)

And these are my favorite! The yellow dress...LOVING! Her big blue eyes...to die for!

I was so excited when Danielle contacted me to schedule Dean's one year photo shoot. Why? Well...after a while, doing shoot after shoot, of different ages, I have found myself LOVING certain ages. One year olds are probably my favorite age to shoot. Why? Cause they are just learning to walk...which means they aren't fast, yet they can stand...and they aren't sick of the camera! In fact, they are fascinated by the big black contraption that makes clicking noises. :) This is not to say that others are dreadful...not at all! I do LOVE all ages...there are just some that are a big more challenging than others (like...a 3 year old runner that has zero time nor tolerance for the lady behind the camera! ;)).

Dean. What can I say? He makes it look easy. :)

I have had the opportunity to spend time with quite a few newborns lately. ALL lovely, all precious...all of them make my ovaries spazz out! However...Baby D was THE calmest little newborn I have ever taken pictures of. Maybe it is because he has two older brothers and he already knew being calm is the way to survive. He is absolutely precious...and perfect! He had a bit of a bumpy arrival...a trip to the NICU...but 2 weeks of life and he is as calm as can be! When I look at some of his pictures, I just see "peace".

Have you ever met someone whom you just know is an old soul? Like, they just emanate "coolness". You haven't? Well...meet Ethan. Yes, he is only three months, but doesn't coolness just seep from his pores? I can just picture him as an adult...just walking down the sidewalk as the coolest cat in the neighborhood. I can visualize his swagger...and I can imagine everyone trying to emulate him. He. is. just. cooool.

I think it helps that his Mom is just as cool. Tara knows one of my deepest and darkest secrets...my natural hair color (eeeeks!)...she and I are in cahoots in keeping that little tidbit of info under wraps. ;) I LOVE her! Oh and I LOVE the salon she works at (LeBliss Salon if anyone wants to check it out...they ROCK!). I have visited her once a month for the past 5 years, and never once walked away disappointed. Thank you Tara for letting me spend the morning with you and your cool cat. :)

Remember back at the end of June, when I went to the hospital to take pictures of sweet Emma? Well, I got to visit her a week later and spent LOTS of time with her...we played dress up (as you will see). Oh girls...so much fun! The only words that come to mind when I first saw Anna is:

And the only words that came to mind when I was editing Anna's shoot was:
"Are you FREAKIN' kidding me??"

No, seriously...are you freakin' kidding me right now? She is SO cute! Quite possibly THE cutest thing I have ever seen! I have no words...she is just so freakin' cute! :)

(HUGE thanks goes to Anna's kind parents for braving one of the hottest evenings of the summer! We shot for about 45 minutes...and all walked away drenched in sweat! Oh SO worth it!)

Run, Walk and Roll Baby! ~

At the end of June, I had the extreme pleasure of being the official photographer at the Todd Crawford 5K Run, Walk and Roll event. I actually attend every year, and look forward to it...however this year, I didn't run! I took pictures...and loved it even more! What a fantastic event...put together by a fantastic person: Todd Crawford.

I met Todd 8 or so years ago, when I first moved to Louisville. His brother and my husband went to High School together (as it normally is in Louisville). The Crawfords have become great friends to our family...all of them! I was honored when Todd asked me to take pictures at the Run, Walk and Roll. Of course, I could NOT turn it down, I didn't want to! :)

This is such a family event...and its for such a great cause. Please, do yourself a favor and check out the Todd Crawford Foundation. He has 3 events each year...and I challenge you to to participate in them...I promise, you won't be disappointed! :)

Today my kids are at their Great Grandparents house and I am using the "free" time to work on some photo shoots. It is almost 3pm...I have been working on this particular photo shoot since 11am. I worked on it during nap time yesterday...

About a half an hour ago, I found myself saying: "Self, WHY is this shoot taking so long to finish??!?!", then I realized that I was on picture number 80. That is 80 EDITED images!!! There are SO many amazingly cute photos of these two siblings, that I can't choose the best ones to edit and show!!! :) I LOVE when that happens!!!

Meet Clara and Colin (again). You all met them last Christmas when I did Colin's newborn pictures, and a few Christmas photos of both of them. We have also seen Clara in her cute Halloween costume at last year's Halloween Event (yes, I will be having another one this year, more to come on that later!!). I cannot get enough of these two...and I am so glad that their awesome parents keep me busy! :)

LOVING them!

A little note: I live with brown eyes. I have brown eyes, my husband has brown eyes, and both of my kids have brown eyes (we are talking BLACK!)! I love it, however it makes me really notice non-brown eyes, like, you know...blue eyes. :) Colin and Clara have blue eyes...we are talking "stop dead in your tracks" blue eyes. Take a gander below...and keep in mind that I did not do ANYTHING to their eyes in the editing process...WOW!

Clara wore her adorable little outfit from dance...OMG...girl stuff (I am surrounded by boys) is so foreign to me! I LOVE it!

Colin...well, what can you say? He is probably one of the most adorable 8 month old on the planet! :)

Last week, I had the awesome opportunity to visit Emma in the hospital...Emma was born 30 hours before I met her. She was just beginning her journey in this crazy world...her journey through this amazing/heartbreaking/wonderful thing we call life.

I am SO excited that I was there to capture some of her first few moments. I am sure that with a blink of an eye, she is going to be 16 yrs old and driving her wonderful parents crazy with boys, late nights, and short skirts. How awesome is it that I was there to capture Emma at her most pure...and now her parents can always look back and remember one of the most amazing moments in their lives. :)

More of Myself

So much of photography is about building a relationship between client and photographer. If the client doesn't trust you, or LIKE you (the photographer), it will show in the photos. This is one reason I love photography so much...the relationships. Meeting knew people and getting to know new people. Everyone has a story, and I love learning those stories.

I was lying in bed last night, awake, and I realized that I don't offer up too much of myself to my clients (and "fans", dare I say I have any? That sounds so pretentious!). Why don't I offer much of myself (other than my vision of course)? Probably because I fear complete abandonment if strangers knew my nutty quirks (and boy are they nutty!).

However, as we all know, a relationship cannot exist one sided. So...I am turning over a new leaf. Putting some life into this business! I want it to say "THIS is Rachael Ice". :)

I am going to start off with a quiz/survey from a year ago. Remember that "25 Random Things About Me" survey that spread like wildfire on Facebook? Well...I am going to post it here. I should probably update it and call it "25 Random Things About Me...a year later", but for the most part these apply. :)

A special apology to those that have already read this on Facebook. Read it again. ;) And to those that are not "friends" or "fans" on Facebook...what the heck are you waiting for? Go ahead..."Like" Images by Rachael! :)

25 Random Things About Me
25. I am too self analytical. To a fault. I question everything about myself and analyze every decision I have to make or have made in the past.
24. I am a total Young and the Restless fan. I have watched it since I was in Elementary School.
23. I love Survivor, Americans Next Top Model, Lost, Gossip Girl, The Office, Entourage, Grey's, Private Practice, GLEE, So You Think You Can Dance...and many more. How I have the time to watch them all, I have no idea. Thank goodness for DVR!
22. I love holiday M&Ms (they taste different than regular ones I promise!) and Hershey's Chocolate.
21. I didn't start "really" living until I was 23. Then I manged to live my high school, college and after college years in 5 years...
20. I LOVE fashion, but don't consider myself fashionable.
19. I have been to over 110 Dave Matthews Band concerts (and counting)...and have met some of the greatest people at them.
18. I I love photography and always have.
17. I miss my dad dearly. Two weeks before he died I had the chance to spend a weekend with him, and I decided not to go. I regret not going and making, what now would be, final amends.
16.I love my family, however our adult lives and relationships are not at all how I imagined they would be.
15. My favorite city is New York City. In another life (without kids), I would move there in a heartbeat.
14. I secretly like Louisville...except in the winter and when my power goes out.
13. One of my biggest fears is failing as a mother, and making irreversible mistakes.
12. I am completely convinced that Jonathon is the only man that would (be willing) to put up with me and my self analytical tendencies.
11. I miss working at Sundance and at Churchill...I miss the people rather than the actual job (although, Sundance, I do miss the actual job and wish I could go back 7 years and do a better job).
10. I miss living in Arizona.
9.I miss my black Jetta. What a great car!!!
8. In another life (before marriage and kids) I was a total computer geek, and a gadget girl.
7. I have no idea how to decorate a house. That is why most of my walls are barren...
6. I HATE being cold.
5. I do not eat meat still on the bone (i.e. chicken legs, thighs, ribs...etc..buffalo wings...)
4. I went to FIVE different colleges, and still managed to graduate in 4 years.

Ahhh...18 month olds! I love them! They have NO patience for the camera...nor do they have any interest in the clicking of the camera (like 2 or 3 year olds do). Getting them to look at the camera is a challenge...but fun none the less. 18 month old are so curious...the world is so new to them! Just as it should be. No worries, just interest, in everything.

This is Ava...she is 18 months...and VERY inquisitive. :) We walked around McNeely Lake...and she wanted to swim! She wanted to play with the ducks...she wanted to get her feet muddy...and she wanted to do it all herself! It was a joy spending the morning and exploring the world with her! She is a dream...and a cute one at that!

A couple of weeks ago...Oli turned two...and I got to, not only take her two year old pictures, but capture her birthday celebrations! Honestly, what is better than running around with little ones...eating cake, pizza, bouncing on bouncies...and tumbling on the Tumblebus?!

Yes, the Tumblebus. Oli is really into school buses, and her mom (who is VERY resourceful) tracked down the Tumblebus. This school bus parks in front of your home (or party location), and for an hour the little ones get to tumble inside. They have rings to swing on, a trampoline to jump on, slides to slide down, monkey bars to monkey on...and an awesome driver who sings and dances with the kids. It was fantastic fun! It entertained kids of all ages...Oli, being two, LOVED it. My son, Nathan, being almost 4, loved it even more. There was a 6 year old that enjoyed the fun as well! The Tumblebus! Who knew?! :)

I love flying by the seat of my pants. This shoot...Will's shoot...was supposed to be done in Anchorage Park. However, leave it to the ever changing Kentucky weather...and the venue had to be changed because of trees down in the park area. So, Will's Mom called and asked me if I wanted to just come to their backyard...OF COURSE! I was a little nervous, because I was going in blindly...I didn't know what the lighting situation would be...etc. However, I was excited because I would really like to do more "lifestyle" photography, and this was a good opportunity to get some practice. :)

I spent an hour with Will...and we had a blast! An absolute BLAST! We played chase, and peek-a-boo...and he got to play with his cars and his slides. We had a great time!!! :) I am so excited about these pictures...I honestly LOVE them all! Thanks Will for the play date! :)

This is Adriana (Ade, for short). She is the daughter of my very best friend (my BFF :)), Val. Therefore, Ade...is essentially...well...my "niece", so to speak. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her! She has sass...and I LOVE it! The girl knows what she wants...which is a very important thing for a girl to know. PLUS she is sweet as pie. Two traits that are sure to conquer the world! I can't wait to watch her! :)

It's a small world here in Louisville. A small world...and the longer you live here, the smaller it gets. Its what makes it so charming, I think. I am not from here...and yet I have lived here long enough to know I will most likely run into someone I know at the Grocery Store. This photo shoot wasn't any different! Summer called me while I was in Denver to book a session...she found me through a mutual friend. However, while doing the shoot, we learned that we had a few other mutual friends in common as well...AND we were all from out West (Texas and New Mexico on their part). It was fun chatting with people who understood the difference (good and bad) between Louisville and the west. :)

Honestly, where do I begin with these two amazing people?! Bethan...I have known for FIVE years (wow...Bethan, yes, it has been that long!), and I used to work with her at Churchill Downs. She was there through my entire first pregnancy...she threw me an amazing baby shower...she never fails to check in. I love her! And her husband, Dan, is THE nicest guy on the planet. Down to earth...real. They fit. They match. :) Baby Emma is one lucky little lady!

Bethan was very reluctant about getting maternity pictures...as was I when I was pregnant. But I assured her that she would LOVE being able to look back and really see just how beautiful pregnancy is...and there isn't anything like your first pregnancy. Sure...any after one is amazing and great...but the first...its new. Its butterflies (literally!) in the tummy fun. It is just magical (okay, it was for me!)! Bethan...I really hope you love these as much as I do! :)

Okay. Seriously? I LOVE what I do! Just look at these girls! How cute are they? OMG! While in Denver, I met Elena and Lexi. The evening that we had scheduled their photo shoot, the wind was going crazy! I seriously felt like I was back in Cheyenne, Wyoming! I almost cancelled the shoot because no one wants to take pictures with hair flying all over the place...and I sure didn't want to try and edit pictures with hair flying all over the place. Alas, we decided to "make it work"...and I am SO glad that we did! When I saw these two little girls run down the hill with their pink tutus on...I almost died! :)

To top it all off...they had obviously been studying their model poses, or watching America's Next Top Model, because they were posing like crazy! It was fabulous! They LOVED the camera! :) It made my work that much easier! :) Thanks Layla for braving the wind with me. :)

A couple weeks ago, I had the huge opportunity to head west to Denver, Co. This trip with pure pleasure...with a little "work" thrown in (I say "work" because, I have a hard time calling my passion "work". :)). While there, I hung out with my best friend in the world, spend a couple of quality days with one of my cousins, AND broke out the camera to spend some time capturing pure happiness. I loved every second of it!

One of the shoots I had was the Van Wyk Family. I hit it off right away with Sophie...we read the same blogs! LOL! I even learned that she has a huge interest in photography as well! She has the most amazing family ever! So cute. We took a walk down the streets of Littleton. Here are just a few of my faves. :)

Best Shot Monday

So...today's BSM should probably be a beautiful picture of snow. It has been snowing here in Louisville for what seems like YEARS! I will admit that it IS very beautiful, it is. If only it weren't so, you know, cold...and snowy...and slushy and wet...and, cold, I might actually like it. But I don't...and so I refuse to celebrate its beauty by spending time taking pictures of it. ;) How is THAT for reverse psychology? Hehe...

No, what we are DOING while it is cold and snowy is the real story. You see, I am the mother of a 3 1/2 year old (as of Wednesday). My amazingly smart, wonderful, fun loving 3 1/2 year old is still not potty trained. Yes, I know....I KNOW! Part of it has been, well I thought, "he just isn't ready". However, now that we are getting closer and closer to him being 4, and he is getting bigger and bigger, the fact that he is still wearing diapers is just stupid. So, now I think that the issue has been me...and no, I am not sad to get him out of diapers because that means he is growing up. Nope, that isn't it at all...I think my issue is that I haven't accepted the actual time, patience and persistence that it takes to actually get him trained. I mean...one has to drop everything for days to potty train! Who wants to stop all fun activities to clean up poo and pee for three days? Not I!

However, the child needs to get out of diapers. I refuse to have the only 16 year old in diapers! I refuse! So, I must buckle up, and just do it. While it is cold and snowy...and we are snowed in, why not take advantage of the time? So...off to Walmart we went to purchase numerous (pairs of?) underwear. I have set aside a period of time to focus, focus, focus...but am not going to say when it is, because well...who needs that kind of pressure?

Phoenix, AZ Photographer: Sneak Peak - Catie and Ben

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a big fan of the cold weather...and definitely not a fan of snow. In fact, to me, the warmer the better! As a way to get away from the cold, dreary, cold (did I mention cold?) weather of Louisville, I packed my boys up and headed west...to my hometown of Gilbert, AZ. Ahhh, the sunshine was SO nice! While in the big AZ, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Catie and Ben.

When I found out I was heading west, I texted my amazing brother and asked him if he knew of anyone needing/wanting engagement photos. At the time he didn't, but about a week later is lovely wife texted me and said her cousin had just gotten engaged and that they wanted pictures! So...I set up a photo shoot with Catie.

Cut to the evening of the shoot, and I am waiting for Catie and Ben in front of Joe's BBQ on Gilbert Road (if you live in the Phx area...you MUST eat at Joe's!). Camera, props, lenses, etc...all waiting to get the shoot started and for Catie and Ben to arrive. We had never met in person (though I do think they were at my brother's wedding), only spoke briefly on the phone...and Catie had told me that Ben "wasn't really a camera/picture type guy"...so I had no idea what to expect. I am not sure I even went in to the experience with expectations. I was just excited to have the camera in my hands again!

So Catie and Ben walk around the corner...and my heart literally stopped, or skipped a beat or something. I could not believe how beautiful they were! You could SEE their energy...it radiated from them! AND they were game for anything!

The shoot consisted of lots of kissing, lots of smiling, lots of giggling, lots of kissing...oh yes, and even more kissing. I am pretty sure that if you were to look up the words "in love" on wiki-pedia, you would find Catie and Ben as the supreme example. SO full of life! Not a care in the world...relishing in every moment they had together. :) I loved it! I loved them...

Okay, lets get on with the pictures already!!!! :) It is picture heavy...I couldn't choose a favorite!

I read this blog by a woman named Tracey Clark. She is awesome to me. She does this thing called Best Shot Monday...it is, well, exactly as it sounds. Find your favorite shot from the previous week and show it, on Monday. Hence...Best Shot Monday!

Taking it on the Road

Hey everyone....its 2010!!!! Ya know, in case you hadn't realized! ;) Hehe...how could you NOT notice the end of a decade and the beginning of what feels like a new era! Do you feel the 2010 energy? I do! I am so excited to see where 2010 leads me and this business! I have my hopes and dreams for the future of Images...I am hoping 2010 will see the implementation of some of them!

First on the 2010 plate is that I am hitting the road! One major goal I have for my business is to be bi-coastal, so to speak. I would not only like to have a booming, trusted and well respected business in Louisville, but I would also like to take it into other cities that I frequent (Phoenix and Denver are you listening?!). So first stop on the road map is Phoenix! Yeah sunshine! Yeah warmth! Yeah outside! :)

I will be in the Phoenix area January 14 - 31. I am currently booking photo shoots in the Phoenix area during those dates! Give me a shout: imagesbyrachael@gmail.com or info@imagesbyrachael.com

If you were to ask me "What did you get for your Christmas when you were 11 years old?", quite honestly, I would find it extremely difficult to remember. In fact, I can't remember what I got for a lot of Christmases growing up...and even now. However, I do remember the Christmases that our family made it a special mission to give back.

In the spirit of "giving back"...I am doing Cans for Comments (HUGE thanks to Courtney Reese for giving me the idea). How does it work? Sneak Peak: Baby Daxton

Here is the third newborn shoot of a three newborn shoot weekend. It has been so much fun spending time with these tiny little guys! I have realized that my "newborn style" isn't with a bunch of frills and printed backdrops. I like it simple. Simple backdrops, simple posing...just quiet, and well...simple. :)

I received an email soon after I put out the newborn model search, from Brittany. She found my name from a friend who's parents are friends with my in laws (yeah, wrap your head around that one! ;)). Come to find out she knows a lot of the same people that we hang out with and are good friends with...small world (its Louisville!). Anyways, she contacted me and she was about 6 weeks away from being due. A couple of weeks later I got another email telling me that she was scheduled for a c-section at the end of November. A week later, she emailed me again and said Baby Daxton was already here! And not a preemie size either! :) The Davis Family is SUCH a great family. I was so "awed" by how calm they were with Baby Daxton...and he was such a sweet baby. Thanks Davis Family for letting me come into your home, move it around...and snap away. I hope you like them :)

(Okay enough chit chatting...get on with the sweetness...)

I LOVE this one! It might be my favorite from the entire shoot. Ten days old and already learned how to hide his face from the camera! ;)

This last one just melts my heart. Brittany wanted a "Christmasy" shot, so she brought out this red hat. Ohhh goodness...how sweet it is! I love it!

Sneak Peak: Colin

As most of you know, I am a transplant to Louisville...almost 8 years now (YIKES!). One of the first person I met when visiting my now husband was Trey and his, then, girlfriend (now wife), Stacey. I remember so vividly meeting Stacey and feeling a kinship with her...as we were both from out west. I have always had a special place in my heart for the Crawford family...they are amazing to me. I was extremely honored when they asked me to take their new little guy's picture. I had so much fun...even when he pooped on the blanket! ;) I really hope I did him justice. :)

Colin's older sister wanted to get in on the picture taking...and I am SO glad she did! I LOVE Clara...she is so smart and sweet and so proud to be a big sister.

I had a great time spending the evening with this beautiful family. Truth be told, I was a little nervous about shooting them. I deal mostly with little little kiddos...in my personal life and my photography life. I haven't had much experience with teenagers...especially teenage boys (soon enough, I know, soon enough). So I wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and not completely tortured! Luckily this dude just rocked! I couldn't help but imagine the future and what kind of teenagers my own boys will be. This little guy is probably the tiniest little guy I have ever seen! He was born a few weeks early (35 weeks). The surprising thing about little Mitchell is how compact and solid he is. Okay...so...I am TOTALLY playing catch-up! I am honestly not sure what happened to the month of September. Did we skip it? Was there some law passed that we were just going to jump to October? Because, I don't remember September at all! I remember Labor Day weekend, and now...the LAST DAY OF THE MONTH!!! Seriously, where did the time go?!

I took James downtown Louisville, and we just kind of walked. It was pretty late in the evening...definitely bedtime, but James was a true trooper! :) I just love this little guy. Just to keep everyone up to speed (and because I am so super excited!)...Images will be getting a new look very VERY soon.

A new look? What exactly does that mean you ask?

Well...we are talkin' a new logo (I LOVE IT!!!!), an official website (almost done!!), more detailed pricing info and packages (don't worry, nothing too extreme, and yes, you will still be able to get a disc of images :)), and some super COOL promotions!

I am so excited to launch it all :)

Sneak Peak: "B" Kiddos

I LOVE my job! I LOVE being a Mom AND a photographer (both of which are works in progress :)). I LOVE being able to go and meet new people and spend a couple of hours getting to know their kiddos...the three below are definitely no exception! They were FUN!!! They kept me on my toes...and they loved each other! I was so moved by how obvious it was that these three siblings loved each other. They looked out for each other...oh and they LOVED Smarties! :) Thanks Barber Kids for being such troopers! (P.S. The request was made for some black and whites...which I LOVE! Darra...there are more on your actual disc than what I have thrown up here...I hope you like them.)

Sweet, sweet Audrey...or Audrey Audrey as we like to call her. I have known Audrey since the day she was born...before that even. Here Mom and I shared our first pregnancies together, and had our firstborns 36 hrs apart. Our kids have grown up together...and now bicker and fight and love like brother and sister. Audrey...oh how I had fun shooting Audrey. She IS a girly girl, only in the sense that she LOVES being a Princess. We played dress up...and she got to be the Princess. Princess Audrey...

Sneak Peak: Will (and his brother Sam)

It is so fun capturing moments with families that have the same dynamic as my own (in other words, two boys around the same age as mine). This was the case with Will and Sam. I was asked to take mostly pictures of Will (7 months), and just a few of Sam (3) and then some of the two together. What fun! Sam is hopping and skipping and jumping all over the place! I heard LOTS of fun stories about bad guy adventures. However, at 7 months, Will isn't far behind...this little guy is already crawling and pulling himself up! And VERY happy! They were SUCH fun to run around with!!!

Yes, again, Zane and Hailey...I was going through the photos and rediscovered this one. One of my (many) faves. They are married now...Congrats!

I haven't posted any photos, because...well, I haven't taken any (except a few of Nathan - who HATES to get his picture taken, so they never turn out- and Sambo - who is always sleeping). It is getting warmer now, so we can do outside shoots...which is where I do my best stuff (imo).

Zane and Hailey Engagement Photoshoot

A few weeks ago, I had the awesome honor to shoot some engagement photos of my brother, Zane, and his fiance, Hailey, while they were visiting. They have set the date for February 28, 2009! Adults are so much easier to shoot! :) Thanks guys for being my test subjects...I think they turned out awesome!

Okay, so a couple of weeks ago, I had my first "in studio" photo shoot...which coincidentally was my first "newborn" shoot as well. What a learning experience! Now, aside from the lighting (which I am still trying to grasp and figure out...I am a little stuck I think.), the shoot went fairly well. Cali (the newborn) made it out okay...she did pee on her mother (sorry Taffeney! I should have been quicker!), and really loved her Binky. Aside from that we all made it out alive!

Now, you would think that taking pictures of a newborn would be simple...they don't move! Uhhh, yeah, not so! While they are much easier to shoot than a running, jumping toddler, it still isn't simple. I assume it will get easier when I start doing it more, and get more experience in what to do, what to look for and how to capture the moments (PLUS learning more about lighting). Alas, I think I got 5 good photos out of the entire shoot, which I feel like a failure about. I just have to keep telling myself that it was my first...everything. So...here is a peak:

So...yes, another blog. I mentioned to my friend, Collette, today that I think I am addicted to blogging...or having blogs rather (since I don't update any of them as much as I should). However, this one is a little different...maybe even a little premature.

It is no secret that I would like to start my own Photography business. I think that being a "photographer" has been a dream of mine for a long, long time. Since Jr. High (Mom, you can attest to that...). Since then, I have taken class after class, read techniques, books, websites, and dreamed of "someday being good at photography, and maybe even someday making money doing it." That dream, idea, whatever you want to call it, has stayed with me all these years...and having a child only made that desire worse/more.

So, why not? I see the type of photography that I really like...and the type of photography that I want to take (and don't)...and in a moment of empowerment (those happen very rarely for me), I said "why not me?". Why can't *I* take those types of photos? Why CAN'T I fulfill one of my childhood dreams? Why The Heck Not?????

So. Here I am. Throwing my hat in the wind and hoping I am not laughed off the street! A Blog! A blog to show my shoots (a precursor to a website)...maybe to get some input from possible consumers out there, and a blog to let ya'll know that I am trying hard to become better at a craft that only appears to be simple.

Be patient. Don't laugh too hard. Here I go...
